A clan born and bred in the far off island of Mizu no Kuni, the Adenars were famous in the Shinobi Underworld for their skills and unique abilities with swords. Although they were never compared to the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist, the members of this clan were equally feared when engaged in close combat. This "fear" was soon ravaged by the many attempts to erase this clan from the Books of History, which was thought to be succeeded years ago. The reason behind the attempts to destroy this clan was that these shinobi weren't actually from the continent. Besides the names "Adenar" and "Sword Specialists", they were also known as "Westerners". They brought knowledge and styles from a different land, far away from that in which the Shinobi World settles. Due to this fact, they were never accepted by the majority, thus the part in which most of the main villages tried to eradicate this clan.
Kirigakure no Sato, even though it had its bloody reputation, was probably the only village not to take part in such an act of hunting and murdering the Adenar Clan's members. Why? An obvious response for such an obvious question: The Adenars worked for the Hidden Mist Village, some even came to live in it. They were expert swordsmen and cold murderers, taught in the ways of close combat from an early age, learning how to kill in a very short period of seconds. Maybe it's due to the fact that Kirigakure no Sato always looked kindly at the Adenars that they weren't completely eradicated. Who knows? The Legacy of this clan might still live on at the very heart of the Hidden Mist Village. But this is not even a rumor. It is impossible for someone to even think that an Adenar or two survived. That is why the clan was able to survive... People's ignorance. Well, one has to thank the same majority that tried to kill him in a determined moment of time, might as well do it now.
The Adenars... They were able to wield most types of swords, but their passions were on short and sharp blades that did not possess a hilt. Their best style was the Art of a Thousand Blades. Its mere pronunciation could create an unpleasant and depressing environment. The clan worked its way with precise and quick blows. Their intention was to weaken their opponent in various ways to lower their defenses, mostly focusing on the limbs, then working their way to the torso and head. For this reason, speed was and still is an essence to the clan. They must be fast on their feet and have an active "Spider Sense", which is obviously not to be taken literally. It is merely a metaphorical expression that implies they require keener senses and better reflexes. Mostly the reason why their training envelops in speed, reflexes and sword wielding. However, apart from their great ability in Kenjutsu, they are also know for being adepts at Taijutsu, being able to synchronize their blades' blows with tactical kicks and punches that will provide openings to injure a determined target. They count with a flourishing set of styles, solely on Kenjutsu. From the many clans of Mizu no Kuni, the Adenars are the most vaguely known, being only recognized in the Underworld of the Shinobi World itself. But, who said that it wouldn't change? Presuming that there is at least one survivor left, that single person might create enough havoc so that the name is feared again.
The Adenars were like the Nara Clan of Konohagakure no Sato. They held no Doujutsu or Innate Ability, throwing them off the list of Kekkei Genkai clans. However, their specialty in Kenjutsu was never equaled by anyone except for the Seven Swordsmen. Of course that one is not born with the experience, he must be trained. Due to this reason, Adenars are soon trained in the Arts of War from an early age. At seven, they must be able to know the basics of wielding a blade. At the Coming of Age, which is Seventeen, they are initiated in the First Level of the Art of a Thousand Blades. Before such training begins, the clan members must prove their worth by having mastering the first two styles that the clan possesses. This makes the younglings of the clan to be deprived of their childhood in exchange for knowledge of wisdom. The entire living system of the Adenars affects the clan's members' personality greatly, for their training days bring great impact to their mentality. There was a rumor that one of the strongest Adenars was mentally ill due to his training's harsh conditions. Luckily for his future brethren, the leader of that specific time understood the danger that such a personality could create and he decided to ease the training.
Although there weren't more cases of mental illness, the Adenars continued to cause a mental impact on their next generations. These shinobi were resembled to stone do to their cold hearts and non-existent feelings. The clan was very kept to itself, holding emotions in, emotions which were only partially shared among the members. Apart from that, they were never outgoing, which was just another perk that contributed for their "eradication" (which obviously did not take place). Complicated fellows to communicate with words, but very easy going and excelling with battle-words. What are battle-words? Punches... Kicks... Head butts... Swords clashing one another... One gets the picture. The clan is a mere adept at Ninjutsu, also not being really experienced in Genjutsu. In these two qualities that also evaluate a shinobi, one could say they had an average level of experience. However they do have one or two Genjutsu techniques.
The Adenar's blade fighting styles are named after different types of animals that somehow describe the style... In a way. For example, the "Lion" would be a style that focuses in raw power and precise, meticulous blows. While "Cheetah" could be given to a style that uses speed and critical, previously thought blows. Thus, the reason for this clan being able to flourish with more Kenjutsu Styles. It all depends on the ability and techniques of the member, who might even create a new style. It's all in one's imagination and the animal's name is in tune with the style. One of their styles, for example, is called the "Craving Rat". You'll know what it means once you read the rest of the clan's Information.
Styles: Techniques and Description
Style of the Craving Rat: This style is the foundation of the first techniques used by the Adenar clan members. It resides in quick and rash thrusts, as well as fast manoeuvring and hit & run tactics. The basics of sword fighting are implemented in this style, which is the first step and is mostly learned at the age of seven. Basics such as body movement, a skilful thrusting (although at an early stage is not that skilful), sword handling... These are pretty much what spin around the "Craving Rat". The most adequate sword for this style is the short sword. Adenar members have also been seen using daggers, but the short sword’s equal balance between the hilt and the blade, along with its increased reach comparing with a dagger, makes it perfect for the quick stabs that this style is all about. The only slashing manoeuvres existing in this style are those when an Adenar reverses the grip in his sword. Slashes shall come in combinations of two to three moves, followed by reversing the grip back to normal if required. The only real basic technique of this Style is the reverse of the grip itself, which is merely turning the hand around the hilt. But like any other thing, this must be practiced by the young seven year old beginners.
Description: A simple reverse of one's grip over a sword or blade. It is basically turning the hand around the hilt, offering a better manoeuvrability in certain situations.
Style of the Laughing Hyena: Not the most honourable of styles in the Adenar Clan, but effective. The "Laughing Hyena" is enveloped in a set of movements that distract the clan member's target so that a third party may attack from behind. Due to this, it is not recommendable to do this without either teaming with another Adenar or using physical clones. A characteristic of this style is that of the member to only strike from behind while his "aid" cusses the target. It works via taunts and it is just a "Support Style" of that of the "Craving Rat", holding no new techniques. If the backstab fails, the attacker is usually known to fall back quickly in order to find a new opening... Let's say it's just like a hyena trying to take advantage of the situation. This is an optional style, only taught for those who wish to do so. Thus, it is really only learned by Adenars that are older, around their mid-teenage years, when they gain access to most of the styles of the clan due to their training.
Style of the Angry Tiger: This is the initial step for the Art of a Thousand Blades. It is with the "Angry Tiger" that an Adenar learns the first concepts of the Thousand Blades' wielding. Their sword wielding gets harder than before. Quite frankly, it is needed a good level of experience in the earlier and most basic style to learn this one, and even so it takes months to perfect the style. This time, the Adenar clan member wields a hilt less blade which the handle is strapped with white and sturdy clothing, which also envelops the user's wielding hand and forearm. He can then fight in a casual way holding the blade or using the cloth, being able to control the blade in a distance by having the cloth as a medium. Wobbling the cloth in order to the blade change directions, spin it around, a whole set of movements that is possible by doing so. Taijutsu is practical. While offering a distraction with the sword or with the physical contact itself, the user can either use his body or the sword, depending on what they are using as distraction, to attack the opponent. "Angry Tiger" is also a good style to fight against groups of opponents. The manoeuvrability with the blade and the strap of cloth allows the user to perform attacks and feints from a distance, keeping his enemies at bay if they wish to enter a close combat conflict with him. He can also use the environment to his advantage by using the blade, for example to lift up some dust to the eyes of his target. The Adenar must train to be able to use the strap of clothing perfectly. The clothing can reach a maximum of five meters, the clan member being able to control its reach up to three meters in any way he pleases.
Drawbacks: One must be realistic and notice that the user can't willingly control the blade. The momentum with which one swings the blade will obviously affect his control over its direction. This is why doing a heavy swing with the cloth and trying to make it go the other way is impossible with a simple wobble. What the user can do in this situation is pull the cloth back, which will bring the blade itself back to the hand of the user, and try a different approach.
Technique: Rope Wielding
Description: Basics on being able to use the white cloth that can be strapped to a blade and the Adenar's hand, using it as a medium to control the blade's direction. The user will then be able to understand how and when to able the blade to make it change directions and bring more danger to the opponent. It is crucial that one learns this before utilizing the "Angry Tiger" in battle. If one doesn't learn this, his mastery of the style is basically null, for the "Angry Tiger" itself turns around one being able to use the cloth to control the blade's directions.
Description: A basic technique. The user spins the cloth, making the blade reach the ground and lift up dust. As the Adenar keeps spinning, the lifted dust will begin to veil his body partially, him only being visible from the midriff up. This requires mastery over Rope Wielding. This covers the body for one post.
Technique: Shocking Secret Move - Silence
Description: A peculiar move, used by Adenars who have mastered the "Angry Tiger" and are ready to advance to the next level. It is quite simple; however one can only use it in a close combat situation, when being very close to his opponent. The clan member will tap his blade with his free hand, strapping its tip with a chakra string. As he is fighting his opponent only by inches, he will create a distraction by dropping his blade in a vertical position. However, in the next moments after that (the next post, in which the blade hasn't touched the ground yet. The faster the better, of course), he shall use his free hand to pull the blade back up, its tip stabbing the jaw of his target and, not only silencing it, but also killing the opponent. This can be used to stab other parts of the body that meet the tip. If grazing through the skin, it will be a simple slash.
Style of the Ferocious White Tiger: The "Ferocious White Tiger" is the last step before one being able to train the "Art of a Thousand Blades". In this style, the user does not wield one, but two hilt less blades along with the straps of cloth. The Adenar is able to control the two blades and the cloths after making an advanced training of rope wielding. He can also train to use his palms on the blunt edge of the blade itself to change its direction, depending that it must be close for the clan member to do so. This style will allow a better performance when fighting against multiple enemies, as well as faster reaction time to different attacks, by the simple fact that one has an extra blade to use. The user can alternate them between defense and attack, however it suits him, or use both for offense or defense. Again... However it suits him.
Technique: Advanced Rope Wielding
Description: Advanced training to be able to use the "Ferocious White Tiger" more effectively. In this training, the Adenar trains the control over two blades, each having its own cloth strapped to it. Without this technique, the Adenar won't have full control over both of his blade's actions and might even injure himself or fail important blows.
Technique: Blade Palm
Description: This is coordination training. In this practice, the Adenar will train his ability to coordinate his palms, making them hit the blunt edge of the blades he wields and controls with the cloth. With this practice, he is able to further enhance his control abilities over the blades and make them change direction. Mostly used when fighting multiple enemies in close combat.
Description: An improved version of "Cloud". Instead of using one blade, the user now uses both. This time, a small area around the Adenar is enveloped in a cloud of dust. This area is a circle that has a radius of seven meters, making everything impossible to see inside. Then the Adenar is able to make his open with heavy and bloodlust swings that reach up to three meters. He will most likely dance while in the fog, spinning around and moving from one side to the other. The fog lasts for three posts. Requires Advanced Rope Wielding.
Technique: Metal Clashing
Description: A very basic technique. The user sheaves one of his blades with the other towards the opponent's direction, sparks being lunged at the target's eyes. The goal is to blind said opponent for the post afterwards. After the post is done, he regains vision.
Technique: Shocking Secret Move - Fatality
Description: A technique that requires quick reflexes and strength. The user must first be able to throw his blades, controlling their trajectory with the cloth. If able to strap the cloths almost simultaneously or in fact simultaneously on his target's forearms, he must quickly pull the arms forward, which will consequently pull his body forward. The blades will spin one more time before the sharp edges slice off the head of the target from the back of the neck. This requires precision and skill in order to be perfectly executed. If the target overpowers the user, he might be able to execute the technique by distracting the opponent and pulling him by surprise, the "surprise effect" being enough for the enemy to be dragged.
Art of a Thousand Blades
The style which the Adenars are mostly known for. In the "Art of a Thousand Blades", a clan member is possible to wield three or more blades, depending on his training with them. This is the most advanced style of the clan, something that is strictly forbidden to be taught to outsiders. The "Art" itself is meant to be used with three blades, two being blades of short swords, around 65 centimetres long, while one is to be one meter long. The two first blades are used one in each hand, both strapped to white cloth that is five meters long. The third blade is strapped to the same white cloth, but this cloth is wrapped around the user's shoulder (used on the shoulder of the wielding arm) and chest. The cloth is eleven meters long and has the same quality as the other ones. The problem is the high level of coordination one must have. Without a mastery over fighting with these blades, it's useless to learn this style, much more use it. It is not something that one learns at the first time. It takes months, a year or two to develop and perfect. Also, the long blade is strapped at the backs of the clan member, being hung by a small string with a peculiar "button". When pressing this "button", the string will be untied and the blade released. Having the cloth on the place there was supposed to be the hilt makes it possible for the Adenar to wield the blade with his mouth. Also, EVERYTHING he trained until now is precious when using this style. Without having a mastery at any of the previous techniques, the user is most likely to face certain death with this technique. He can also increase the level of blades wielded, but that is completely up to him. Over time, he will need to train in order to be able to wield such a surplus of blades. A total of five blades can be wielded, with wielding all five at the same time being the hardest.
Technique: Mastery of Rope Wielding
Rank: A-Rank / S-Rank
Description: This training allows the Adenar to be able to use all three blades at once with coordinaton and understanding, along with ease. He must gain a new level of concentration in which he is able to understand the rythm and movement of the blades he moves, along with their speed, their trajectory and precision. One must train this once as A-Rank if he wants three blades, then once again as A-Rank if he wants four blades. For five blades, one must train this as S-Rank, AFTER learning the A-Ranks.
Technique: Shocking Secret Move - Breathless
Description: The user must have his torso's cloth unstrapped in order to do this. The Adenar stabs the ground with his long blade and lunges at his opponent, his teeth biting the cloth that is strapped to the long blade. Upon close proximity, he shall pull the cloth, which will consequently pull the blade. As he ducks, the blade shall create a distraction as he forces his short blades against the opponent's ribs, piercing his lungs. This requires a good level of speed and reflexes, so not advisable when lacking on these.
Technique: Spinning Blades
Requirements: Style of the "Ferocious White Tiger"
Description: In this Genjutsu, the user must first stare into his opponent's eyes and begin spinning his blades towards opposite directions. As this is done, the target will believe that those blades multiply and feel groggy, like if going to vomit. This will cause negative effects in the opponent's balance and disallow him to move correctly, almost like if in a drunken state for two posts. For the opponent, the most logical explanation might be that he got dizzy with the spinning of the blades. Kai allows that this Genjutsu is released.
Technique: Improvement - Spinnin Blades II
Requirements: "Art of a Thousand Blades"
Description: In this Genjutsu, the user shall do the exact same thing as in Spinning Blades. After successfuly doing so, the enemy will not enter a supposedly drunken state, but that of paralyzation. In the user's next post, the second part of the illusion kicks in. A third sword comes out of the center of the spinning circle, apparently stabbing the opponent's chest. This will make him get into a state of shock and let himself be open for an attack. It can be released through Kai between the two posts of the user. (the post he activates it and the post the illusion blade stabs the target)
Technique: A Thousand Blades
Description: The user will make a set of hand seals as eye contact is not lost. Upon conclusion, the enemy will be surrounded by a thousand illusion blades that will stab him. He does not feel the pain nor is injured physically, but mentally. The mental injury can be enough for him to enter a state of shock and despair. A way out of this is Kai or overcome the shock state with Inflict Pain. However, if nothing is done, the target is vulnerable for an attack.
An Adenar is given a simple short sword at the age of seven, when he learns the first basic style of the clan. This short sword’s blade is around sixty five centimeters long and sharp. The clan member is also possible to disconnect the hilt from the blade in order to be able to use the "Angry Tiger" style. Along with it, he learns that clothing and other sort of equipment only adds weight, restricting movement and maneuverability. Thus, they lean on using light or no upper body clothes at all in battle. For battle, they are usually seen as "Berserkers". They have no armor whatsoever, yet a strong presence. The white cloth that is later used for their styles is worn since the age of seven as well. Their shoulders and chest are strapped in those white "bandages" along with their forearms and hands, waist and guts. Only the tips of their fingers are "naked", not being covered by the white cloth. This material is quite strong. In fact, a normal weapon can't simply cut through it. At a higher level, it may be possible for a clan member to focus his chakra through the cloth to strengthen it, allowing it to be nearly unbreakable against most attacks made on it [chakra swords or elemental swords cut through it]. Any other blade that the other styles require must be purchased.
- One Short sword with removable hilt;
- Two five meters straps of white cloth (Forearms/Hands);
- One eleven meters strap of white cloth (Shoulder of wielding arm to midriff);
- Two three meters straps of white cloth (Waist to midriff).
Number Cap and Requirements: Five Members / Kirigakure no Sato Shinobi
